Meadows to Medicine

Have you ever wanted to make your own herbal medicines but weren't sure where to begin?

This two-day, hands-on workshop is designed specifically for beginners who want a practical introduction to herbal medicine. Together we'll spend time outdoors identifying and ethically harvesting medicinal plants before learning the fundamentals of turning those plants into useful home remedies.

During the workshop you'll learn:

• Basic plant identification using one of today's top plant identification apps

• Ethical and sustainable harvesting practices

• Proper garbling (cleaning and preparing herbs)

• Fundamental medicine-making principles

• Safe handling and storage of medicinal plants

  
  

Together we'll identify and gather several medicinal plants and create herbal products including:

• White Man's Foot healing salve

• Jewelweed spray

• Psyllium seed harvest and processing

• Facial toner

• Chicory “coffee substitute”

• Elderberry Syrup (if its ripe)

• And possibly more based on plant availability at class time

  
  

Each participant will leave with multiple herbal products they personally make during class, along with the knowledge and confidence to continue exploring herbal medicine at home.

Camping and Lodging

Out-of-towners: Very rustic camping is available through FireKeepers International with a $25 per day donation. There is beautiful camping space on the land with a community firepit and a portojohn for a bathroom. No showering facility is available but there are two fresh water creeks for the adventurous.

If you want to stay at a hotel, Greeneville, TN is recommended. Newport, TN or Morristown, TN is also nearby.

Instructor: Ambassador Laralyn RiverWind, N.D.

Dr. Laralyn RiverWind is a Doctor of Naturopathy, master herbalist, educator, and co-founder of FireKeepers International. With years of experience studying medicinal plants, traditional wellness practices, and natural medicine, her hands-on approach to herbal medicine equips students with the confidence to safely identify, harvest, and prepare herbal remedies.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is intended for beginners or those who have always wanted to learn herbal medicine. If you already have significant experience making herbal remedies, this class may be too introductory. Space is limited to ensure plenty of hands-on instruction and individual attention.

Materials Fee

The class fee of $300 includes almost all medicine-making supplies, containers, and take-home products. There will also be a small list of items to bring from home that you will likely already have on hand (pot, large spoon, colander, etc.). Saturday - Day Off (open invitation to attend a spiritual service at the council fire, 3pm in the afternoon same location
